The Zebra GC420D Direct Thermal Desktop Label Printer with label peeler has an efficient mechanical design for monochrome direct thermal printing of labels at 203 dpi (8 dots/mm). The OpenACCESS media loading design, label liner peeler, and quick-loading ribbon system help to increase work efficiency. It has an ABS double-walled construction for durability. It has a standard 8 MB SDRAM memory with an 8 MB flash memory and 32-bit RISC processor for high throughput. Media sensors are transmissive and reflective to accommodate different label types. The printer accommodates fanfold, roll-fed, and tag stock media types. Core programming languages are EPL2, ZPL I/ZPL II. Multiple connection options include serial RS-232, bi-directional parallel ports, and USB. The electrical is auto-detectable and power-factor correction (PFC) compliant at 110 to 240 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz for use in a variety of settings, including asset management, bag tag, records management, cross docking, and shipping/receiving.

Thermal printers can be used to print receipts, labels, tags, and other similarly sized media at point of sale (POS) locations. Direct thermal printers and thermal transfer printers use heat instead of ink to print on coated thermal media. A parallel, serial, or USB port allows a receipt printer to be connected to a computer. An Ethernet port or wireless capabilities may enable it to be connected to a computer network. Thermal printers can be used at retail checkout counters and other points of sale.
Zebra Technologies manufactures barcode, receipt, kiosk, and radio-frequency identification (RFID) printers and accessories. The company, founded in 1969, is headquartered in Lincolnshire, IL.
