While the newer single board computers have onboard Wi-Fi, the onboard chipsets aren't universally as supported if you are going to be experimenting with multiple operating systems. The published speed by the manufacturer is 150Mbps (downlink) and 72Mbps (uplink). You might be able to achieve these speeds at a distance of maybe 2 feet from the router. More realistic speeds in practical applications is more like 54-36Mbps. This adapter is a good choice for adding network connectivity for day to day to web surfing. You'll likely find high bandwidth applications like video frustrating and you'd be better off with a dedicated wireless card.
